While the term “sexy” might initially conjure images of glamour, in the context of job roles it can mean a variety of qualities such as attractiveness, desirability and social prestige. The image of certain professions can be influenced by factors such as media portrayal, societal values and personal aspirations.
For some, the high-stakes environment of finance or the cutting-edge innovation in tech roles exudes a magnetic charm. For others, the creativity of the arts or the altruism of healthcare professions holds an irresistible appeal. These varied perspectives highlight how the notion of a “sexy job” is subjective, often reflecting individual preferences.
But what do the UK adult population think when it comes to professions that rate highly in the bedroom? Online roulette provider Mr Q carried out research to find out what the public really think is the sexiest occupation.
Does your occupation make the grade?
It might come as no surprise that firefighters are top of the list for the sexiest occupation in the UK, with 19% finding those who work in the profession the hottest of the lot. Those in uniform also feature in the sexiest job list with doctors and police officers at 8% and 7% respectively. But it’s teachers who do it for 9% of the UK public, perhaps due to their authoritativeness or responsibility.
What all these professions have in common, though, is their placement in the public sector, whether via local government authorities or through an NHS career. This suggests that those who dedicate their lives to helping others possess a significant appeal.
If your occupation didn’t make the cut for the hottest role in the UK, you might just make the list for top performer in the bedroom. A newcomer in the top five for this category is those who work in customer service, with 12% suggesting they are the best lovers.
Men versus women
Although the perceived sexiest professions are similar across both genders, there are slight differences between what men and women find attractive. For women, the top five are firefighters, doctors, police officers, builders and chefs. Men, however, rate teachers, doctors, police officers, lawyers and firefighters as top of their lists.
What about the least sexy profession?
Unfortunately, lorry drivers, electricians and security guards fail to make the cut across many regions, while bankers and estate agents are also thought of as lacking sex appeal in the bedroom.
While opinions differ across generations and regions, it’s clear that uniformed professions continue to impress the UK population. But whether this is due to the uniform itself or rather the qualities of people that these professions attract is up for debate.
Of course, these are all generalised opinions and whether someone finds another attractive or not is sure to come down to a range of factors as well as their job and looks.
